Frequently Asked Questions
What is Freegal?
Freegal is a streaming video service. All you need is your library card number and last name. Freegal offers access to thousands of feature films and television episodes from major content providers. The service is browser or app based, like popular services you may have used before. On a computer, you won't need to download any software. Freegal offers a free app for your mobile device.
How does Freegal Movies work?
You can browse Freegal Movies in several ways. You can go through the featured selections on the home page, or you can browse through New Arrivals, Most Popular, or the Library Picks at the bottom of the page. Freegal Movies is a browsing site, and not a search site, at present.
Once you have made your selections, you just press on the image, and then press play. A playing screen will open, and then the movie will start playing. You can watch it as a partial size, or expand it to full screen. The video player enclosed in the browser can fast forward, rewind, pause, play or adjust the volume.
How many movies or shows can I watch?
With your library card, you can watch 3 different movies or television episodes each week. Each Sunday at 11:01 pm Central Standard Time, your counter will reset, and you can get more movies. The number of selections you have left is indicated in the upper right hand corner. When you have not made any selections it says “3 movies”.
How long will I have to watch my movies?
You'll have a 48 hour viewing period after making each selection, during which you may watch it multiple times. You can find your movies that are still available to view under "My Account." After you have had 48 hours with a movie or television show, you will not be able to watch it again for six months.
Can I use Freegal Movies & TV on mobile devices?
Yes, you can use Freegal Movies on mobile devices using the free apps for iOS and Android devices. They are available in the Apple App Store and the Android Marketplace, a.k.a. Google Play. The Freegal App is required - it will not work from a mobile browser. At this time, there is not a Freegal App for the Kindle Fire.
